DISTRACTION

TOPIC: DISTRACTION

Distraction is a thing that prevents someone from concentrating, a thing that shifts one's focus.

A man of God once said that you do not need a sword or gun to kill a champion. You only need to give him another assignment different from his assignment to make his attention divided which would lead to a divided vision (division).

Distractions come in various ways. It can be from people, environment, circumstances, things, thoughts or temptation.
Some distractions may be subtle, that is, they are not obvious.
However, not everyone is distracted by the same thing. For example, a man can be distracted by the figure of a woman while another man is not distracted by that same woman. Music may distract some people while reading but it might be enjoyable for others. Therefore, not everyone is distracted with the same thing.

Some distractions are unavoidable (death)because they come in form of unexpected circumstances. Also, some distractions are beneficial and necessary. For example, I have been to some churches during services to pray with them because they were in sorrow.

However, negative distractions will lead to the end of our peace, happiness, relationship, money, time and other resources.

Your identity and purpose in life will always be a point of attack of the enemy. For some parents, their purpose in life is to give birth to a child (for example, Mary's purpose was to give birth to Jesus).
You need to be aware of your purpose and be guided because the enemy will always attack you in order to prevent it from happening.

SOME PEOPLE WHO WERE DISTRACTED IN THE BIBLE
1. DAVID:
His purpose was to become the king and lead the people in righteousness.

His Distraction: 2 Sam 11:1-5
“And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time WHEN KINGS GO FORTH TO BATTLE, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David TARRIED STILL at Jerusalem. And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof HE SAW A WOMAN WASHING HERSELF; AND THE WOMAN WAS VERY BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK UPON. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.”

The devil was ready to attack David and he gave him the chance to, by not going to the battlefield. Instead, he stayed behind and he was moving up and down in the palace.
This distraction led to several problems for David. It also ended his relationship with Ahithophel. It also caused Absalom's misbehaviour. This is because the mistake of any parent can lead to a child's misbehaviour except they are prayerful.

David was distracted and he made the situation worse when he murdered Uriah.

Lust and sexuality are major weapons of distraction which one must be careful of. Because David was at the wrong place at the wrong time, being in the wrong place at wrong time brought him problems.

2. SAMSON:
His Purpose: Judges 13:5
“for, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and HE SHALL BEGIN TO DELIVER ISRAEL OUT OF THE HAND OF THE PHILISTINES.”

Samson got distracted by women.
Judges 14:3
“Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.”

Samson loved the women from Philistine.

Purpose can be destroyed when you are distracted. Identity can be missed when you get distracted.
Judges 16:1&4
“Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.”
“And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.”

David was distracted from his GOALS while SAMSON was distracted from his PURPOSE and IDENTITY in life until he finally revealed the secret of his power.

HOW TO STAY FOCUSED.

1. Let Your Mind Remain With God:
There will be no distractions when you focus only on God.

 Isaiah 26:3
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

2. Renew Your Mind Daily:

Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

HOW DO YOU RENEW YOUR MIND?
Reading God's Word and Praying Constantly: When you read God's word and pray constantly, your mind is free from negative mental distractions.

You can also renew your mind by listening to Godly messages from ministers of God.

You have to always renew your mind because unconsciously, the ungodly things you see and hear register in your mind and plays itself back when you are less busy.
However, this will be prevented if you renew your mind.

3. Stay Away From Idols:
Keep yourself from anything that will not represent God in your life. Keep yourself from anything that will become an idol in your life.

 1 John 5:21
“Little children, keep yourselves from idols”.

4. Always ensures that you are staying in the Will of God:
You have to know and understand the will of God for you.
Distraction is a very dangerous thing. You have to ensure you stand your ground in the will of God.

Ephesians 5:15-17
“See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is”.
